Weekend Sewing

While searching through several blogs the other day, I saw a book called Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross that looked interesting. It is full of sewing projects that you can finish in a weekend or less (hence the title, I guess.) I tried to find it at the library, but it was a no go. So, last night, just before they closed, I went to the bookstore with the intention of only looking, but it was so cute and inspiring that I HAD to have it. There are lots of awesome projects in there and not just baby stuff, but since I am going tomorrow to visit my sweet little nieces, I thought that maybe that was the best place for me to start. So far (since last night) this is what I have made:

A baby Kimono for my brand new little niece.

Some sweet little bloomers to match.

A dress for my sweet Tuula girl (and some bloomers to match that I didn't get in a photo.)

Needless to say, I think the book is very nearly perfect. The next thing I am going to make will be for me...maybe.

Sharing the Lists

For Christmas, my wonderful little sister (Tracey) bought me a book (i think it was actually from my dad, but she picked it out) called Listography, Your Life in Lists. This book is totally awesome. If you haven't seen it, you will want to. It is made up of loads of lists from places you have lived to your character flaws to your biggest pet peeves. There are at least a hundred lists to fill out.

My lovely sisters and I have decided to fill out the lists together. Each one of us fills out our top ten for the topic and then we compare. Our very first list was an easy one...nothing too deep or frightening...

10 on the 24th???

Please forgive me for waiting 14 days to post my 10 on the 10th. Things just got a little crazy there for a while with all kinds of school stuff going on. Now it is spring break and I am so happy to have a little time. Time to do lots of things, but for now, here is my 10 on the 10th for March.

8:00

Getting ready for school. Eat a little bit of breakfast.

9:00 (9:15)
We switch to our math classes. My students participate in 5 centers, including playing chess.


10:00
We attend the elementary Rachel's Challenge Assembly where we hear about kindness and good choices. Mind you, the link is for the middle/high school assembly, ours doesn't go into as much detail.


11:00
Back in our classroom, we talk about what great things we have done to make others feel welcome and happy. We start our "chain reaction" by each writing down something kind we have done on a chain link. We put all of the links together to form a chain. We will continue to add to the chain until the end of the year. (Pictured is Ms. Hadley Best, one of the kindest girls I know.)

Lunch and a small break. ahhhh.

Prep. Lots of work to do, many distractions. Pictured is the website Giggle Poetry, awesome and very distracting. Highly recommended for teachers and parents of young kids. There are a million and one funny poems on there and it even includes some "poetry theatre." Beware though, it is easy to get lost on there.

Teaching 1st grade piano class.


3:00
Tomorrow we are attending a performance of The Wind in the Willows by the Idaho Shakespeare's Idaho Theatre for youth. We are studying up on it so we will know what is happening tomorrow during the play. (It was fantastic, by the way.)


4:00
Cleaning up the classroom and heading home. I get to my car and I am totally STOKED to see the strawberries that my wonderful carpool friend found on Craigslist for 3.00/dozen plants!


5:00
Home in time to start making dinner. Brocolli and cheese soup. It doesn't look that great, but it is one of my favorite, super easy, delicious meals.


6:00
I end the 10 on the 10th going for a walk with Johnpaul. One of the best things ever. I admit, I forgot to take a picture of this one, so I am using an older picture of the two of us on a walk...playing around on a walk, but still on a walk.

Next month I will try my hardest to be on time (or at least close to it!)

March 10 on the 10th

Today was a little crazy, so I didn't manage to do this on a hourly schedule, but I did get 10 pictures!
1. Way to early in the morning -7:30ish

Breakfast, Homemade Strawberry Freezer Jam on toast. Yum!

This is a picture of my messy messy desk. It is clean now and the grants are balanced! Yay!

Lunch at 12:30

This was my first lunch with Tina since her maternity leave. I am so happy she is back

Afternoon - 4:00

The fabulous wonderful Pam has returned from New York and was kind enough on, her first day back, to edit my paper and make it very purple. :)

Car ride home with Morgan

5:30

Daisy and I went on a hour long hike up to the very top of Mt. Tabor. It was super fun.

7:00Me sitting at my computer with the purple paper above, making it perfect. I am turning it in tomorrow a whole day early! Wahoo!
9:00ish

Ben is home, waiting for me to stop watching Weeds.


10:30

Ben brought me a Huckleberry Gallette home to eat for desert. It was delicious.

The Ten

Another pretty uneventful 10 on the 10th for me. Oh well! Here it goes:

8 am

I show up at work. Ten minutes late, by the way, due to the icy road conditions!

9 am

After Abbie girl gets some food in her, we try to get her dressed. This is what we ended up with. Pretty good, don't you think? She is wearing her skinny jeans, which I think is hilarious. Skinny jeans for babies!

10 am

We take about 10 pictures to show that we are reading books in bed.

11 am

After dropping Abbie off at daycare, I find Keeley waiting for me. This is our nap time.

12 pm

Just woke up from our nap!


1 pm

Now that I have my tiny tv and dvd player in the kitchen, I can watch movies and do dishes at the same time! Today the cleaning movie was The Secret Lives of Bees. It was ok.


2 pm

As I finished up the movie, I cut up the fresh strawberries I bought at the store to put in the freezer. I am terrible at eating things before they go bad.



3 pm

I spend a couple painful hours working on my Political Science midterm.




5 pm


I get ready to head to my evening class. It was extra long today so we could have a study group for the midterm.



9 pm

Watch some tv with Ryan before he heads off to study.


So, that was pretty much my day. I can't wait to see Steph and Mich's tomorrow!
